Things this back-woods redneck school has done to piss me off (part 2!)
Not allow parents to walk their children to class (not even on the first day)
Allowed the staff to dress up for Halloween but not the students
Denied my daughter access to a good behavior party because she was bad 29% of the time
Refused to let me volunteer because I don't have a sitter for the baby
The teacher openly shows favorites
Christmas was not celebrated no gift exchange
Her teacher blames having 3 children at home for not having grades in on time
The librarian and Clifford the Moldy Dog
The teacher put my daughter in a cubicle because she is a "problem"
Sent home because she was out of dress code when she fell and ripped her jeans *it was a hole in the knee; come on now!!*
Just got a progress report saying she is getting a "N" (not sufficient) in conduct and behavior. She has been good more than 60% of the time though.....apparently they want a 90% or better
I don't know what to do. I feel like I am the only one on my daughter's side here. Even my husband tends to agree with the teacher about her behavior. I finally broke down and called her doctor for an appointment to check for ADD. I don't want to have to put her on medication. I love how lively and charismatic she is. I feel like no one else sees that in her though. This is breaking my heart.

wow. so let me just say the school sounds messed up.
In terms of your daughter having ADD. I honestly think way to many kids are being diagnosed with it when it is just a normal childhood characteristic to be hyper. I think its an excuse for teachers to be lazy and restrict children from being themselves. Granted there are some cases and children that do actually improve with medication but it should not be the first option. My nephew is on it and he only takes it school days and it does help him but he is a wild child, very smart just sitting for 6+ hours is not his thing. Anyways I would discuss your daughters behavior with the doctor and also the school counselor( or maybe other adults that work with her at the school). I bet there are other things that can be done for her before taking the medication root. One thing could be giving her ( or making it with her) a stress ball she can have at her desk to play with while she learns or maybe a small slinky or squeeze toy. I don't know I guess something that she can occupy her self with but is not distracting to others. I know this is something that is done in many classrooms. It is perfectly natural to not be able to conform to restriction for so many hours even for adults. I know I don't sit well and I often, am playing with something behind my desk at school and I find I am still very successful. The Teacher is just being lazy and she sounds like a bitch ( excuse me) but there is deff. steps to be taken before any thing drastic and who knows maybe next year she will have a really good teacher and this "problem" will disappear. Either way there is nothing wrong with ADD medicine and many kids stop taking it around middle school, I know you will love her the same either way and I can understand how it is hard. Stay strong dear.
